1. Researchers at the Toulouse Biotechnology Institute have developed a designer enzyme to accelerate the biodegradation of PLA, a 3D printable polymer made from maize. 2. The new PLA with the enzyme can biodegrade in home composting and anaerobic digesters, significantly faster than standard PLA. 3. The material's application is currently limited to processes up to 170°C, which is unsuitable for most 3D printing techniques.
