SK hynix has developed a new high-capacity SSD, the PS1012 U.2, designed for AI data centers. This SSD boasts an impressive 61TB capacity, utilizing QLC technology and supporting PCIe 5.0 for transfer speeds of up to 32 GT/s.
The new SSD doubles the bandwidth to the SSD, thanks to the adoption of PCIe Gen5 over the Gen4 standard, which offers 32 GT/s and a sequential read performance of 13GB/sec, double that of the Gen4 SSDs available before.
SK hynix plans to supply samples of the PS1012 U.2 to global server manufacturers for product evaluation this year and aims to expand its product line with 122TB and 244TB SSDs by 2025. The company is also targeting the SSD market with ultra-high-capacity SSDs, up to 244TB, using the world's highest 321-layer 4D NAND developed in November, which is expected to overcome the capacity limitations of eSSD.
