FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have announced a new standalone co-op game titled 'Elden Ring: Night Reign,' scheduled to be released in 2025. This new game is not a sequel or an expansion of the original 'Elden Ring,' but rather a separate experience set in the same brutal fantasy universe.
Players will not need to own the original 'Elden Ring' game to play 'Night Reign,' and its place within the series' lore is still unclear. According to FromSoftware, the game is an action title where players can tackle overwhelming situations together with other players.
In 'Night Reign,' while some elements like enemies, weapons, and other aspects are retained from 'EldEN RING,' the game has been reconstructed with a completely different game design. This includes controlling characters with different personalities and facing new threats.
'Elden Ring' has been one of the fastest-selling video games in recent memory, with over 25 million copies sold since launch. The success of the series has prompted Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to continue expanding the universe at a rapid pace. Sony is also in talks to potentially acquire FromSoftware and its IPs, which could lead to a deal for publishing rights.
