1. Intel has unveiled the world's first fully integrated optical compute interconnect (OCI) chiplet co-packaged with an Intel CPU, demonstrating live data at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC) 2024. 2. The OCI chiplet supports up to 64 channels at 32Gbps data transmission speeds, significantly enhancing bandwidth, energy efficiency, latency, and reach. 3. The new optical I/O system can scale up to 100 meters of fiber optics, a 100x increase in distance compared to traditional electrical I/O, crucial for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI systems.
